WE ARE UPDATING OUR COMPLIANCE MARKINGS: UKCA MARK UPDATE

What is the new UKCA mark?

Currently PPE and similar products sold in Great Britain and Europe are marked with the CE symbol. The UK Government, as a result of Brexit, have introduced a new standard and symbol, the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark. This symbol will be used for goods being placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland).

You can view this new symbol below.

What happens to UK and European Markings now?

Products being sold into Europe will continue to carry the CE mark, whilst products that are only sold in Great Britain will require the new UKCA marking. If a product is intended for both markets the product will carry both markings.

When will we see this new change?

When this was first decided, the government gave manufacturers 1 year to update certification and issue them with the UKCA mark. Due to the unprecedented number of certificates needing to be processed with UKCA, the UK government has now given a 12-month extension to the transitional period.

What does this mean?

This means that all products sold in Great Britain need to be UKCA marked by January 2023, not 2022. Here at Beeswift, we are putting in a lot of hard work to ensure that our products will be updated with the UKCA mark over the next 16 months, which is great – but please be aware that the product could also be sold with a CE mark in the meantime without issue.

Can I still buy CE marked product in the UK?

CE marked product can still be purchased and sold in the UK and will continue to be acceptable until the UKCA mark becomes mandatory in 2023.

Can I buy CE marked product in the UK after 2023?

CE marked product will be available to buy without the UKCA in 2023, but only when the product was manufactured and “placed on the market” before 2023. If a product was manufactured in 2023, it MUST come with a UKCA mark.

What are Beeswift’s plans?

The company has decided to dual-mark products. This means that a single product will have both a CE and UKCA mark.
